Presentation of the gallery

Since 2006, Les Douches la Galerie has been championing historical and contemporary photography, with a particular focus on documentary photography, formal experimentation and current artistic proposals that question the boundary of the medium. Today, he has a particular focus on drawing and tapestries.
Exclusive representative in France of the estates of Berenice Abbott, Arlene Gottfried, Ernst Haas, Vivian Maier and Ray K. Metzker, Les Douches la Galerie also accompanies living artists in the recognition of their work in France and abroad.

Through more than sixty solo and group exhibitions and a rich collection of more than 3,000 photographs, Les Douches la Galerie offers a vast selection of works from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day, with a constant concern for excellence in printing. Committed to promoting the artists and estates represented, Les Douches la Galerie supports museum institutions as well as private collectors, whether they are seasoned or novice, in the constitution of their collections. A member of AIPAD (Association of International Photography Art Dealers), Les Douches la Galerie participates in international fairs such as Paris Photo and the AIPAD Show New York.

Presentation of the artist in focus

After five decades of photography, where wall drawings became characteristic elements of his so-called "ballenesque" aesthetic, Roger Ballen began to integrate drawings directly into his Polaroids. For the first time, he created images that physically combined drawing and photography. This addition of drawings transcends the medium of photography itself. Instead of putting a photo on a drawing, he wanted this series to have the specificity of bringing drawing into photography, thus being part of a resolutely mixed technique. Rather than offering images of reality, he fashions a new version of drawing that pushes the boundaries of reality. The result of this approach is neither a drawing nor a photograph, but both.
