Presentation of the gallery
Gaep is a contemporary art gallery with a vibrant exhibition programme featuring the work of established and emerging artists. Founded in 2014 by Andrei Breahnă (cultural manager) and Raluca Șoaita (architect), the gallery focused initially on artistic practices from Eastern Europe. The current programme includes artistic practices that reflect various sociopolitical contexts and different generational positions in an attempt to transcend established borders and circulate artworks and ideas in new ways. In October 2023, Gaep relocated to a custom-designed space that redefined the experience of visiting an art gallery in Bucharest.
Presentation of the artist in focus
Raluca Popa collects materials – images, ideas, texts, her own or from others – and weaves them into new shapes and configurations. Her own works can be such materials, until she decides how to reuse, reread, rewrite them. While drawing is her preferred medium, she also works with video, photography, constructed objects, and various translations from one medium into another, which are fed by a variety of sources, whether visual, literary, or musical.
